الیسا لاگاما، کیوریتور موزه هنر متروپلیتن از هفت گنج شگفت‌انگیز آفریقا صحبت می‌کند. وی می‌گوید که این آثار می‌توانند تعریف‌کننده فرهنگ غربی sahel (منطقه‌ای در آفریقا) باشند. چهار فرمانروایی بزرگ در این منطقه رشد یافته و فرهنگ جالب و خاصی ساخته بودند. میراث بصری آن دوران امروز در موزه هنر متروپلیتن مورد بحث و بررسی قرار می‌گیرد. این نمایشگاه «sahel: هنر و فرمانروایی‌های ساحل و صحرای بزرگ آفریقا» نام دارد. بیش از دویست اثر، از مجسمه‌هایی با سنگ‌های خم شده تا دست‌نوشته‌های قدیمی به نمایش گذاشته شده اند. از بین تمام این آثار، لاگاما هفت اثر را تعیین‌کننده‌تر دانسته و معتقد است تاریخ sahel را به نمایش می‌گذارند.
این نمایشگاه از ۲۶ اکتبر ۲۰۲۰ در موزه هنر متروپلیتن قابل بازدید کردن است.
